When Should I Have My Senior Photos Taken?

Are you approaching your senior year in high school? Are you starting to think about your senior photos? Of course another big question is: when should you have them taken?

Do you wait for your senior year to start, or do it before? I’ve found it common for students to not think about it until a yearbook deadline is given to them. Then there’s pressure to make it happen quick and often this happens in Winter. And Winter on the Oregon Coast is not always warm, dry and free of gusty winds. I’ve done enough sessions in cold, wet and windy weather to suggest a better option: get your senior photos in the Summer prior to your senior year!

Once Summer hits, I like to try and avoid weekends for sessions, due to increased tourists. Any beach or location with a water feature is going to be more crowded then. Another benefit of Summer is more daylight to work with. This also gives the possibility of incorporating a sunset or a sky that isn’t grey.

Don’t these all sound like good reasons to do your senior photos in the Summer prior to your senior year? If you agree, then there’s the answer to your question. It’s a box to check off in your senior year, so why not get a head start and do it now?
